I have been playing basketball for as long as I can remember. When I was in third grade my family and I lived in western Oklahoma on the school grounds where my dad taught and coached. I was his constant companion in the gym and couldn't get enough time with him or with a basketball. My passion for the sport has never waned, and I feel like I'm at my best when I'm helping to pass my love for the game on to kids of all ages. Besides just being fun, basketball has a lot to offer players. It helps with both major muscle development and fine motor skills, improving flexibility, endurance, and hand-eye coordination. Also, learning to behave as part of a team is a critical life skill for even our youngest students when it's introduced in age-appropriate ways. Basketball can help improve our children's listening and processing skills as well. The game is as mental as it is physical. Overall, the skills a child needs to play basketball are the same ones that can be used to improve their lives and their health in many ways.
